What professional show control should cover

Show control is the system that coordinates an experience as it happens. In an escape room, that can include puzzle state, locks, lighting, sound, video, timers, hints, staff controls, recovery actions, and reset checks.

A professional system is not defined by the word “professional.” It earns that description by making normal operation predictable, exposing useful state to staff, handling failures safely, and remaining maintainable after the original builder is gone.

Write the venue requirements before comparing brands

A feature list is only useful after the operating requirements are clear.

Run the same representative test in every finalist

A controlled test makes very different products easier to compare.

    Connect one real input and output

    Use hardware already present in the venue, not only a simulator: for example, a sensor and a lock, relay, light, or audio cue.

    Build a conditional sequence

    Require a device event, a game-state condition, a timed effect, and a branch or alternate outcome.

  3. 03

    Operate it as a game master

    Watch progress, send a hint, trigger a manual cue, and move through the sequence without opening the editor.

  4. 04

    Create a realistic failure

    Disconnect a device or leave a prop in the wrong state. Measure how quickly staff can understand, override, and document the problem.

  5. 05

    End and reset the room

    Confirm that the next operator can validate every important device and return the room to a known state.

  6. 06

    Repeat with the internet disconnected

    Verify exactly what keeps working, what warns, and what requires periodic connectivity.
